At HOMESTYLE we sell 2 main types of wooden flooring:
Laminate flooring is high density polymer material factory finished to give the look of any number of textures or materials. Laminate flooring comes in planks that click together, and "float" above your existing floor (ie. they are not nailed or glued down). The advantage to laminate flooring is that is it very hardwearing. In the unlikely event that a board becomes damaged, the rest of the floor can be taken back up to allow the damaged board to be replaced without too much fuss...then the rest of the boards can be easily re-laid.
Laminates are very resistant to UV fading -so are good for conservatory environments.
HOMESTYLE laminate floors are all commercial grade, meaning they are very hardwearing.
Prices start at £12 per square metre

Engineered Wood Floors (sometimes called "real wood floors") are made from multiple layers of wood pressed and glued together for durability. They are available in many different thicknesses and finishes. Because the various wood grains are pressed together at different angles, engineered woods are extremely dimensionally stable. They do not expand and contract like solid wood floors, making them suitable for below-grade, moist or heavy traffic areas.
An engineered wood floor have a "real wood" top layer" (usually about 4-5mm thick), and so have the look of a solid wood floor and need to be treated as such.
HOMESTYLE engineered wood floor prices start at £38 per square metre
Care tips for real wood flooring:
- If vacuuming, it is best to use the brush attachment. You can also sweep or dust mop (dry). Dirt, rocks, sand and sharp objects will damage a solid wood floor.
- Specialist wood floor cleaning kits, such as the Polycare system are the best way to clean your wood floor, as they are designed to tackle stains without damaging the finish of the wood.
- Wipe up liquid and food spills quickly. Never wet mop your real wood floor.
- Use felt protectors under furniture. Regularly inspect and clean the felt protectors.
- Use pressure disbursement protectors under heavy furniture and appliances.
- Exercise care when wearing high heeled shoes. They can easily dent solid wood flooring.
- Keep pet nails trimmed
- Use window shades which filter the sun to prevent fading.
- Use rugs/mats at all entry/exit points of the home to help prevent dirt and grit being walked onto the wood flooring.
